Microsoft .NET Gadgeteer is an open-source toolkit for building small electronic devices using the .NET Micro Framework and Visual Studio/Visual C# Express.
Gadgeteer is a great solution for .NET developpers who want to discover electronics, robotics and home automation. Gadgeteer is also a great technology for educators.
Gadgeteer combines the advantages of object-oriented programming, solderless assembly of electronics with a kit of peripherals, and support for quick form-factor construction using computer-aided design.

Using Gadgeteer, even someone with low or no skills in electronics can create devices that make use of sensors, switches, screens, communication modules, motors controllers...
Operating Gadgeteer is simple: just select modules you need, plug them to the mainboard (no soldering is necessary, sockets between mainboard and modules are standardized) and program the resulting device with Microsoft C#.
One of the strength of Microsoft .NET is that you can create software running on PC, from the Web or on a mobile device. The simplicity of Microsoft .NET makes a Gadgeteer project easy, efficient and quick.
The Gadgeteer technology is based on a mainboard. Several are available in our department Gadgeteer Mainboards. They have many sockets on which you can plug the modules that are needed by your project. Numerous Gadgeteer modules are available. Discover all the modules in our department Gadgeteer Modules.
The sockets that are on the Gadgeteer mainboard are numbered and labeled with one or more letters that indicate which type of module can be connected.
Each Gadgeteer module contains a corresponding socket that indicates which type of sockets on the mainboard is compatible. Just match the letters to build functional and consistent electronic devices! This can't be simpler!
Programming is simple, intuitive and very powerful.
