Shield for Arduino

Because the physical design of an Arduino board is standardized, it was possible to create all sorts of additional modules that connect physically on an Arduino board. We call these standardized modules Shields. A shield allows to interface an Arduino board to other technologies.

Thus, there are Shields for Lego Mindstorms NXT where the shield, connected to an Arduino, entirely replaces the Lego Mindstorms NXT intelligent brick.

Similarly, Parallax has designed a shield containing a board of education (a breadboard) with an Arduino board which replaces the usual board of the Boe-Bot mobile robot thus creating a new robot named Boe Shield Kit.
