nature\n   <\/strong>\n   in search of the inspiration they needed to create new inventions and make technological progress.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   From the Shinkansen, that famous Japanese high-speed train whose design was inspired by the kingfisher, to the new Speedo swimsuits made of a material imitating shark skin, not forgetting the aeroplane and Velcro\u00ae,\n   <strong>\n    our greatest inventions are very often based on nature and its biological principles\n   <\/strong>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-robotics-drawing-inspiration-from-nature\">\n   Robotics drawing inspiration from nature\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   Now another field is taking a closer look at nature and biology, in search of new ideas:\n   <strong>\n    robotics\n   <\/strong>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\">\n   <a that should help find landslide victims more quickly, inspired by the cockroach\u2019s 3 pairs of legs, or a self-contained flying robot\n   <strong>\n    controlled by artificial muscles\n   <\/strong>\n   , capable of continuing its flight even after hitting an obstacle.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   Robots are\n   <strong>\n    even using animal names to better engage\n   <\/strong>\n   with the collective imagination and represent a robot with greater imagery \u2013 the most famous example being the\n   <a href=\"\/en\/396-mobile-robot-turtlebot\">\n    TurtleBot mobile robot\n   <\/a>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-european-myorobotics-project\">\n   The European Myorobotics project\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   To help researchers make progress in this area, the\n   <strong>\n    European Myorobotics project\n   <\/strong>\n   was set up in early 2012.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   The Myorobotics project aims to\n   <strong>\n    make musculoskeletal robots available to researchers\n   <\/strong>\n   (in fields like robotics, neurosciences), educators and industry.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-1150-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" <\/strong>\n   , particularly in situations where human and robot are obliged to work together, as is already the case with the\n   <a href=\"\/en\/401514-baxter-robot-research-prototype.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Le robot collaboratif Baxter de Rethink Robotics\">\n    Baxter collaborative robot\n   <\/a>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   By taking inspiration directly from the\n   <strong>\n    biomechanics of the human body\n   <\/strong>\n   , robots are going to have increased flexibility, dexterity and ability to adapt in real situations.\n  <\/p>\n of robots is inspired directly from the mechanics of the human body\n   <\/strong>\n   . Six types of modules (known as \u201cdesign primitives\u201d) have been created for these musculoskeletal robots, each corresponding to a biomechanical component of the human body: bones, joints, muscles, ganglions, perceptors and accessories (support and power modules).\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   These components will be mass-produced to improve cost-effectiveness and facilitate the transition to the market.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   A software toolchain will be made available for\n   <strong>\n    assembling a virtual musculoskeletal robot\n   <\/strong>\n   , defining control algorithms and new behaviours, simulating interaction with the environment, etc.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   Again with a view to facilitating access to these robots, the Myorobotics software (and hardware) will be available as\n   <strong>\n    open-source\n   <\/strong>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-international-bionics-workshop-organised-by-myorobotics-international-myorobotics-winter-school-and-workshop\">\n   The international bionics workshop organised by Myorobotics: International Myorobotics Winter School and Workshop\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   From\n   <strong>\n    9\u201312 December\n   <\/strong>\n   , a workshop organised by Myorobotics revolving around this avant-garde project will be held at the famous\n   <strong>\n    Cambridge University\n   <\/strong>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   The winter workshop is going to include:\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n   \n   <li>\n    An introduction to this new technology developed by Myorobotics\n   <\/li>\n   \n   \n   <li>\n    Workshops offering\n    <strong>\n     tutorials\n    <\/strong>\n    ,\n    <strong>\n     simulations\n    <\/strong>\n    and\n    <strong>\n     exercises\n    <\/strong>\n    for an initial introduction\n   <\/li>\n   \n   \n   <li>\n    A number of\n    <strong>\n     lectures and discussions\n    <\/strong>\n    led by r\n    <strong>\n     enowned researchers\n    <\/strong>\n    in the field of robotics, on the theme of\n    <strong>\n     Future of Robotics Based on Biological Principles\n    <\/strong>\n    .\n   <\/li>\n   \n  <\/ul>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   <strong>\n    <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jeromelaplace\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"J\u00e9r\u00f4me Laplace, fondateur de G\u00e9n\u00e9ration Robots\">\n     J\u00e9r\u00f4me Laplace\n    <\/a>\n    , founder and director of G\u00e9n\u00e9ration Robots\n   <\/strong>\n   , has been invited by MyoRobotics to contribute as part of an international panel of researchers and lecturers in robotics and artificial intelligence including Masayuki Inaba (Tokyo University) and Sangbae Kim (MIT, USA).\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   At the time of writing, there are still some places available for the International Myorobotics Winter School and Workshop.
