The\n   <a href=\"\/en\/401514-baxter-robot-research-prototype.html\">\n    Baxter robot\u2019s\n   <\/a>\n   manufacturer has today rewarded our strong commitment by presenting us with the 2014 partner of the year award!\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   Much of 2014 was devoted to the research version of the Baxter \u2013 the Baxter Research Robot \u2013 and we shared our creations with\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"http:\/\/sdk.rethinkrobotics.com\/wiki\/Community\" title=\"Community, SDK and wiki for the Baxter Research Robot\">\n    the Baxter user community\n   <\/a>\n   . Examples include\n   <a href=\"\/blog\/en\/new-ros-package-baxter-tasker\/\">\n    the \u201cBaxter Tasker\u201d\n   <\/a>\n   and even\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.generationrobots.com\/en\/generation-robots-help-baxter-robot-detects-users-thanks-to-motorised-kinect-head-mount\/\" title=\"Generation Robots help Baxter robot detects users thanks to motorised Kinect head mount\">\n    a motorised helmet with a Kinect camera\n   <\/a>\n   . We also co-organised\n   <a href=\"\/blog\/en\/collaborative-robotics-seminar-with-rodney-brooks-on-22nd-october-2014-paris\/\">\n    a seminar at which the founder and chairman of Rethink Robotics, Rodney Brooks, shared his vision of collaborative robotics\n   <\/a>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-baxter-research-robot-huge-potential-for-developers\">\n   Baxter Research Robot: huge potential for developers\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   The\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"\/blog\/en\/collaborative-robots-traditional-robots-5-key-differences\/\" title=\"Industrial robots: the unleashing of a second wave!\">\n    advent of collaborative robotics\n   <\/a>\n   has opened up a huge reservoir of ideas for robotics developers like those working for G\u00e9n\u00e9ration Robots. The fact that\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"\/blog\/en\/ros-robot-operating-system-2\/\" title=\"Robot Operating System suggests, ROS is an operating system for robots\">\n    the ROS (Robot Operating System)\n   <\/a>\n   can be used for a robot like the Baxter means specific high-value-added applications can be created for users and operators of the Baxter Research Robot, the research version of the Baxter robot.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   Rethink Robotics has continued innovating by regularly supplying\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"\/blog\/en\/baxter-robot-found-its-marks-thanks-to-intera-3-1\/\" title=\"Baxter robot found its marks thanks to Intera 3.1\">\n    major software updates\n   <\/a>\n   , not only for\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"\/blog\/en\/major-software-update-for-baxter-research-robot\/\" title=\"Intera is the new manufacturing software version for Baxter Research robot\">\n    the industrial version of the software with the Intera software\n   <\/a>\n   , but also through\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"\/blog\/en\/release-new-sdk-1-1-baxter-robot\/\" title=\"Release of the new SDK 1.1 for the Baxter robot\">\n    major SDK updates\n   <\/a>\n   , the latest of which supports ROS Indigo, Ubuntu 14.04 and\n   <a href=\"\/en\/403757-intel-realsense-depth-camera-d435-with-tripod.html\">\n    the Kinect depth camera\n   <\/a>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-baxter-tasker-an-ros-package-making-pick-and-place-simpler\">\n   Baxter Tasker: an ROS package making \u201cpick and place\u201d simpler\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   An ROS package was created in June 2014, the\n   <a href=\"\/blog\/en\/new-ros-package-baxter-tasker\/\">\n    Baxter Tasker\n   <\/a>\n   , which provides users with an interface for controlling their computer and the Baxter robot. It was designed for integrating a \u201cpick and place\u201d behaviour, and automatically generates the necessary Python code. This contribution was noticed and\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"http:\/\/sdk.rethinkrobotics.com\/wiki\/Baxter_Tasker\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"This ROS package called Baxter Tasker is intended for the Baxter Research Robot from Rethink Robotics\">\n    spotlighted on the Rethink Robotics community site\n   <\/a>\n   .\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-baxter-from-the-kinect-sensor-to-the-touch-sensor\">\n   Baxter: from the Kinect sensor to the touch sensor\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   The sheer number of accessories created for the cobot demonstrates the extent to which it\u2019s possible to increase its visual and sensory capabilities. In 2014 some very useful accessories were used with the robot, like this touch sensor developed by academics from MIT to increase its dexterity.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   Our engineers work regularly with the\n   <a href=\"\/en\/403757-intel-realsense-depth-camera-d435-with-tripod.html\">\n    Kinect depth camera\n   <\/a>\n   , and they came up with the pretty ingenious idea of resting\n   <a class=\"catalogue\" href=\"\/blog\/en\/generation-robots-help-baxter-robot-detects-users-thanks-to-motorised-kinect-head-mount\/\" title=\"Generation Robots help Baxter robot detects users thanks to motorised Kinect head mount\">\n    the Kinect camera on a motorised support\n   <\/a>\n   , thereby enabling the Baxter robot to adjust its field of vision. A practical and original creation found extremely interesting by the manufacturer.\n  <\/p>\n  \n  \n  <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rodney-brooks-vision-of-collaborative-robotics\">\n   Rodney Brooks vision of collaborative robotics\n  <\/h2>\n  \n  \n  <p>\n   To crown 2014, we co-organised in October Rodney Brooks\u2019\n   <a href=\"\/blog\/en\/a-look-back-at-our-seminar-on-collaborative-robotics-featuring-rodney-brooks\/\">\n    visit for a seminar on collaborative robotics\n   <\/a>\n   in partnership with the Pierre et Marie Curie University (UPMC).
