It is also where you\u2019ll find the <strong>Autosys<\/strong> research laboratory, specialised in developing autonomous systems for use in smart cities.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"557\" class=\"wp-image-7844\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.generationrobots.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/smart-city-robotique-mobile-haw-hamburg.jpg\" alt=\"L'Universit\u00e9 de Hambourg travaille sur un concept de Smart City\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.generationrobots.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/smart-city-robotique-mobile-haw-hamburg.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.generationrobots.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/smart-city-robotique-mobile-haw-hamburg-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.generationrobots.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/smart-city-robotique-mobile-haw-hamburg-768x503.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>For several years, G\u00e9n\u00e9ration Robots has been working with Hamburg University, providing the equipment needed for experiments as part of this project (<a class=\"catalogue\" title=\"Autonomous mobile robots\" href=\"\/en\/533-autonomous-mobile-robots\"><strong>mobile robots<\/strong><\/a>, <a class=\"catalogue\" title=\"G\u00e9n\u00e9ration Robots - Laser range-finders\" href=\"https:\/\/www.generationrobots.com\/en\/206-laser-range-finders\"><strong>LiDAR<\/strong><\/a>, <a class=\"catalogue\" title=\"Depth sensors\" href=\"https:\/\/www.generationrobots.com\/en\/205-depth-sensors\"><strong>depth cameras<\/strong><\/a>, etc.).<\/p>\n<h2>TIQ: the HAW Hamburg smart city project<\/h2>\n<p>The HAW laboratory\u2019s <strong>TIQ project<\/strong> (Test Area Intelligent Quartier Mobility) is aimed at improving residents\u2019 quality of life and vehicle mobility.<\/p>\n<h3>Part 1 of the project: data collection<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Data collection<\/strong> is a key part of this project. Researchers will need to build and deploy a network of sensors to glean a wealth of information on the movements of pedestrians, cyclists, scooters, mailmen, etc.<\/p>\n<p>They must also respect inhabitants\u2019 anonymity and privacy (sensors designed on the \u201c<strong>privacy by design<\/strong>\u201d principle).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Machine learning<\/strong> will be used to analyse the huge amounts of data and to cross-reference them with other information, including pollution rates, weather, etc., with a focus on predicting activities and visualising data.<\/p>\n<h3>Part 2 of the project: autonomous robots<\/h3>\n<p>The second part of this project will involve <strong>creating and deploying autonomous vehicles<\/strong> capable of moving around safely in a pedestrian environment.<\/p>\n<p>These robots must be able to act with a high degree of autonomy and perform many different tasks, for example dropping off and picking up items or packages, using a vending machine, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers are currently working on developing a mobile robot able to take a lift on its own so that it can move freely around the campus.<\/p>\n<p>They have chosen a <strong><a class=\"catalogue\" title=\"Husky A200\u2122 UGV mobile base\" href=\"https:\/\/www.generationrobots.com\/en\/402177-husky-a200-ugv-mobile-base.html\">Husky<\/a><\/strong>, designed by Clearpath Robotics and distributed by G\u00e9n\u00e9ration Robots.<\/p>\n<p>The team has equipped it with a UR5 robot arm and various sensors to give it a 3D understanding of its environment and the ability to pinpoint its location:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 x <a class=\"catalogue\" title=\"Intel\u00ae RealSense Depth Camera D435 (with tripod)\" Husky?<\/h2>\n<p>The Husky robot is used in particular for <strong>mapping missions in hostile environments<\/strong> (mines, Mars simulation, mine clearance operations, etc.), but also for maintenance tasks (monitoring and detection of bridge vibrations).<\/p>\n<p>It has a good autonomy (8 hours) and can carry up to 75 kg.<\/p>\n<p>The Husky robot is used regularly in research for
