This color sensor has been designed by the company HiTechnic for the Lego Mindstorms NXT and EV3 robotic kits. The sensor has two LEDs, the first emitting a white light illuminating the target and the second analyzing the color of the object. The sensor returns a number corresponding to a color, a number which can then be used in your program to sort the objects, follow a line on the ground, or any other program involving the recognition of colors.

Positioning of the color sensor for Lego Mindstorms NXT and EV3
The color sensor for Lego Mindstorms NXT and EV3 from Hictechnic works best when not positioned too close of the target. The following figure shows an example of proper positioning. The angle of the sensor relative to the element whose color is to recognize ensures that direct reflection of light is not disturbing the measurement.

Sensor initial setup
Before using the color sensor, you should set it according to the frequency of the electrical system of the country of use.

A must have sensor for WRO or FLL competition. Way better than the regular basic Lego EV3 color sensor. Detection range is much better and you can detect colors and brightness simultaneously .. clearly a huge improvement.
