SparkFun MP3 Trigger: audio for your robot

The MP3 Trigger proposed here by SparkFun is based on the Cypress PSoC CY8C29466-24SXI microcontroller. It offers a total of 18 logic inputs for triggering your FAT32 and FAT16 files. It includes a USB port, a 1/8” stereo jack output and a serial interface for triggering up to 256 audio files with volume control.

An optional initialisation file allows you to set the serial port baud rate and adapt any of the 18 inputs according to your needs, for example to create a replacement, random and sequential track selection or transport control function.

Technical specifications of the MP3 Trigger for FAT16 and FAT32 files

  • Input voltage range: 4.5V–12 Vdc, or regulated 3.3V (jumper selectable)
  • Consumption: approx. 45 mA idle, 85 mA playing
  • Compatible memory cards: SDSC and SDHC microSD (not supplied)
  • Supported files: FAT32 and FAT16
  • Audio output: stereo headphones (1/8” stereo jack)
  • Trigger inputs: logic level 3.3V–5V, active low inputs with internal pull-ups
  • Serial: full duplex, 8-bit, 38.4 Kbaud by default (other baud rates supported via initialisation file)
