On October 10th, the University of California, San Diego, hosted within its walls the « Contextual Robotics Technologies International Forum ».

Rodney Brooks, the founder of Rethink Robotics, and creator of the collaborative Baxter robot , was joined by 8 of the world top leaders in the field of ubiquitous consumer robotics to discuss the future of robotics.

Rodney Brooks, CTO of Rethink Robotics, is known for his visionary ideas about collaborative robotics. Earlier this year, he received the prestigious Engelberger Robotics Award, which is regarded as the highest honor in the robotics industry. During this seminar, Brooks’ talk was entitled: «The Three “M”s as Robotic Research Challenges: Mobility, Manipulations, and Messiness».

If you didn’t get the chance to go to the UCS Forum, it is not too late to register for Rodney Brooks’ next talk, which will take place on October 22nd, 2014 at the UPMC Paris.
Rodney Brooks will be the guest of honor at the collaborative robotics seminar co-organized by Génération Robots and the ISIR (Institute for Intelligent Systems and Robotics). The event will start at 16:00 at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC Paris).

It is still possible to register to this seminar by sending an email at seminaire_rodneybrooks@isir.upmc.fr .

This seminar will be an excellent opportunity for the engineers and computer scientists to attend a Rodney Brooks’ talk, a rare event in Europe !
Rodney Brooks will go through some recent examples of the democratisation of robots in our everyday lives such as vacuum robots in our home, and collaborative robots in our workplaces.

Whether we are talking about vacuums or collaborative industrial robots, the design and user interface were crucial in their development.
Rodney Brooks will also raise the issue of the ageing population, which is a real challenge for the next decades. The growth and the improvement of the robotics systems will almost certainly help the senior citizens to live a more independent and dignified life.

The seminar will be followed by a social event starting at 18:30. There will be some great networking opportunities as the managers of Rethink Robotics, the engineers of Génération Robots and HumaRobotics, and the researchers at IRIS and UPMC will attend.

We are looking forward to see you there !
