The manufacturer Unitree Robotics recently launched the successor to the Go1 robot: it is called the Go2. This quadruped instantly strikes its audience with its unique moves. A team of engineers specializing in mechanics, electronics and artificial intelligence has been brought together to develop a fast and agile robot with extended battery life and integrated AI.

Outstanding agility

The Go2 is equipped with 12 motors and a maximum joint torque of 45N.m, enabling it to perform smooth, precise and powerful movements. It can jump, stretch, shake hands, clap, leap, sit and do back flips. This great agility is particularly useful for navigating difficult terrain.

A robot that combines speed and performance

Go2 has a lightweight yet robust structure (aluminum alloy + high-grade engineering plastic), and can reach a maximum speed of 5 m/s. It’s the fastest robot dog on the market! It can also carry loads of up to 12 kg. The quadruped’s battery has also been upgraded to 15,000mAh, which means it can run for 2 to 4 hours.

New-generation sensors

Go2 is equipped with Unitree’s LiDAR 4D L1, which gives the robot a 360° x 90° hemispherical field of view for precise, reliable obstacle detection. In addition, there’s an ultra-wide-angle HD camera, but also force sensors in the feet, a 3W headlamp, microphone and speakers.

Need to take your applications a step further? The Edu Plus version of the Go2 can be fitted with a robotic arm and additional sensors (LiDARs, cameras, gas or heat sensors, IR camera, etc.).

Cutting-edge technology

A major new feature of the Go2 is the integration of GPT AI, enabling the robot to make faster autonomous decisions and better understand its environment. It also comes with the ISS 2.0 intelligent lateral tracking system, which improves positioning accuracy and enables remote operation up to 30 meters away.

The robotic platform is compatible with ROS and RO2. It can be programmed with C/C++. Programmers have access to the DDS, ROS2 and Gstreamer SDKs (Go2 Edu Plus version only).

Another new feature is that, with the user’s authorization, the robot can automatically connect to a cloud-based service (via OTA) to get new updates. With this feature, the Go2 is always up-to-date, which improves massively the user experience.

Go2: what applications?

Available in 3 versions (Air, Pro and Edu Plus), the Go2 can be suitable for home users, researchers and professionals alike. The Go2 Air and Go2 Pro versions cannot be programmed, and are therefore intended for the consumer market.

The Go2 Edu Plus version is aimed at research, higher education and professionals.

Thanks to its advanced sensors, the Edu Plus version can be used for exploration, inspection, autonomous delivery, patrolling or mapping.
