The Raspberry Pi camera module allows beginners and advanced users alike to take high-definition videos and photos in a variety of configurations. It can be used for time-lapse, slow-motion, and other video modes.
You can also apply various effects. The module works with all models of Raspberry Pi, and a complete Python code library has been built for it.
The first version of the camera dedicated to the famous board used the conventional FSI (Front Side Illuminated) technology: before reaching the sensor, the light had to pass through several layers of printed-circuit boards, which created diffraction and reflection effects affecting image quality. In particular, users could notice a change in colours according to the lighting.
The BSI technology is a major innovation for the Raspberry Pi camera V2: the light reaches the diode directly, which ensures a perfect image and colour reproduction. Add to that the 8-megapixel sensor (compared to the 5-megapixel sensor of the original camera), and you get the (almost) perfect camera module!
