Developed by Rethink Robotics, the SAWYER collaborative robots found their way into some of the best engineering schools, universities, research labs or R&D departments, on a global scale.
SAWYER ROS SDK is a powerful tool, fully compatible with ROS and other open source platforms. Some interesting advanced functionalities will let you visualize and control the robot, so that it can interact with its environment. Push back the limits of robotics and discover SAWYER!
Rethink Robotics designed a fully integrated robotics solution. Featuring 2 cameras and torque sensors in its 7 axes, it is a powerful tool to learn robotics programming and quickly create real life applications. One of its main feature is its native compliance, which makes SAWYER a safe robotics platform to be used with students in a lab, a workshop or a classroom.
SAWYER can be controlled in articular or cartesian but its trajectories could also be torque constrained to use the advantages of the compliance and torque sensors. The SAWYER SDK comes with a ROS/Python/C++ programming platform that will let you experiment with all the robot features. You can find online high-quality resources and tutorials to help you get started.
Combined with a smart range of collaborative grippers, you will be able to create many real-life applications easily. The students or researchers work with real hardware and will be confronted with the challenges of the real physical work. Students are more motivated as they can develop programs with a real-life purpose.
Give a boost to your research projects! The SAWYER robot arm is a ready for use, scalable and user-friendly tool. SDK ROS SAWYER comes with the Gazebo simulator, that will let you test and visualize your program and adjust the robot moves before implementing it on your robot.
« Thanks to SAWYER, students are not afraid to code and experiment with programming. The user-friendly interface and the different programming modes allow them to push back their limits on their own. »
Jean-Luc Charles, Teacher/researcher at ENSAM (Bordeaux)
SAWYER is one of the robots used by the students and researchers of Clemson University (Greenville, SC) in their Vehicle Assembly Center new R&D facility. The robot has be programmed to inspect some automotive parts, retrieving tools, checking the security of the spark plug cabling on an engine.
Real-life application in the Vehicle Assembly Center new R&D facility of Clemson University (Greenville, SC, USA).
"SAWYER simplifies our PHD students work, as it allows them to quickly design and test new research projects."
Dr. Taskin Padir, Director of Robotics and Intelligent Vehicles Research Laboratory at Northeastern University (Boston, MA).
