In order to start taking advantage of your Internet connection, all you need to do is insert your SIM card into the GSM Shield, and connect the GSM Shield up to Arduino board! There are just a few more things to do, which are explained step-by-step via the various elements freely downloadable from the Arduino website.
When you start out with an Arduino Uno, you don’t need to make any changes to your hardware to install your GSM Shield. The Arduino Leonardo, Arduino Mega and Arduino Mega ADK boards require minor modifications, which are easy if you follow the instructions!

This is now possible with the Arduino GSM Shield: with its integrated antenna, the Quectel M10 GSM/GPRS operates on 4 different frequency bands. Its GPRS connection also lets it support HTTP and TCP/UDP protocols, with data transmission rates of up to 85.6 kbps.
Using a suitable SIM card, i.e. a SIM card that offers GPRS coverage, you will be able to give a new dimension to your Arduino project by enabling it to communicate with the Internet, as well as with anyone you’d like to contact using the GSM interface!
