LoRa SX1272 Module: a new means of communication for microcontrollers

The LoRa SX1272 module has everything it takes to revolutionise your approach to wireless communication. Effective over a long range and at less cost, this communication system uses your microcontroller’s SPI protocol.

Your data flows will be given a real boost, while freeing up your UART bus for other equally important tasks. Such as debugging or connecting communication modules!

LoRa SX1272 is also compatible with the 3 main microcontrollers currently on the market: Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Intel Galileo. Dedicated software is available free of charge for users of the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B.

To use the LoRa SX1272 Module with your Arduino board, you’ll need the Multiprotocol Radio Shield, also available on our site.

LoRa: long-range communication technology made in France

The LoRa (Long Range) technology was developed by Grenoble-based Cycleo, taken over in 2012 by Semtech. It has notably enabled the development of smart modules capable of communicating with each other by radio frequency. LoRa communication offers several advantages:

  • Data transmission over long distances;
  • Interference-resistant communication;
  • Very efficient data reception;
  • Much lower consumption.

 

Data can be communicated using LoRa technology over several kilometres, even in an environment presenting numerous obstacles, since radio waves can pass through buildings. Which is why this mode of transmission is increasingly used in smart city equipment, making use of M2M communication and IoT.
